About M.E.T.

Berkeley is a huge school, and with that you have so many people to meet, so many groups and organizations to be a part of, and so many things to do. You also have this college town environment in Berkeley around the campus, and a city vibe in downtown Berkeley. If you want even more of a city vibe, you can go to San Francisco. I’m from a small suburban city in Mississippi, so it was really exciting for me to explore a new area. It was a huge factor for me when picking a college.

One of the biggest things you’ll learn in college, and in the real world, is that one of the strongest parts of your career is your network and the people you know. A lot of the people in the M.E.T. program are going to all the places you’ll want to be. They’re going into finance and product management. They’re going to work at places like Google, Facebook, Morgan Stanley, and Goldman Sachs. They’re becoming quants and entrepreneurs, doing prestigious fellowships, and doing research. I would definitely recommend M.E.T. on that basis alone: the community and the people within the program.

My favorite thing about M.E.T. is the community. Pursuing a dual degree can seem daunting, but thanks to the other students in the program, as well as the fabulous staff and advisory board, I always feel like I have a support network and a group of people to motivate and inspire me. Since everyone in the M.E.T. program is so inspiring, we share all of our resources and knowledge with each other, and that helps us succeed even further. It’s great to have a smaller community of people who I know will always be there for me.

It’s an incredible opportunity to learn from the best of both worlds. Both the College of Engineering and the Haas School of Business have really strong international brand recognition, along with amazing professors, classes, and T.A.’s. Berkeley is the top in engineering and the top in business, and for anyone interested in engineering, product management, and entrepreneurship, M.E.T. is really the program for you.

There are so many challenges within the eSports industry that are either tech or business related. You need technology advancements to push the boundaries of where eSports can go, but you also need to find new marketing opportunities, like expanding into new demographics. The M.E.T. dual degree trained me for both.

What’s so special about M.E.T. is that you have this private school feel in a big school setting. You’re getting the big games and Greek life, but you’re also getting attention from staff who provide you with all the things you need to succeed academically and professionally.
